Strategic Planning Framework State Incentive Grant (SPF SIG)


The State identified Barron County’s priority as:  Underage Drinking Among 12-20 year olds

 Implementation Period 1:


October 1, 2009– September 30, 2010 $140,547


 Implementation Period 2:


October 1, 2010-September 30, 2011, estimated at $140,547


 Total Value: $368,794 over 2 1/2 years


 

Drug Free Communities Support


Program Grant (DFC)



Goals:


 Establish and strengthen collaboration among communities, private non profit agencies, and Federal, State, local and tribal governments to support the efforts of community coalitions to prevent and reduce substance abuse among youth.


 Reduce substance abuse among youth and, over time, among adults by addressing the factors in a community that increase the risk of substance abuse and promoting the factors that minimize the risk of substance abuse (2009-2010: Alcohol and Tobacco)


 $125,000 per year : September 30 to September 29 from 2009 to 2014. The Coalition will then apply for an additional 5 years of funding at the same rate.


Requires a dollar for dollar local match, can be in kind services.


 Total Value: $625,000 over 5 years


 

Environmental Strategies


 Prevention approaches that change the context (environment) in which substance use and abuse occur.


 Create lasting change in community norms and systems, producing widespread behavior change and, in turn, reducing problems for entire communities.


Examples: Alcohol & tobacco sales compliance checks, evidence based programs in schools, prevent adults from providing alcohol to underage youth, strengthen policies to decrease youth access to alcohol

Mini Grants


The Safe & Stable Families Coalition has funding available to groups/organizations that are looking at promoting family strength and stability for the development of healthy communities in Barron County.


 


Mini grants are given out 3 times per year.  Deadlines for appliaction are March 10, 2010, July 7, 2010 and September 8, 2010. Funding award notification will be made by the 30th of the deadline month. The Coalition has a budget of $6,000 and requests should be limited to a maximum of $500.


 


All projects that receive funding will be required to attend a coalition meeting to share the results of their project that was funded.
